Calling all men! Join us for an opportunity to come together with your fellow brothers as we take a deeper dive into fellowship, prayer, and reflection. Our central focus will be a study and discussion on 'What Christ Accomplished On The Cross' - a lecture given by Abbott Damascene (St Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina).
From the 'Orthodox Wisdom' channel on YouTube:
"Hieromonk Damascene, Abbot of the St. Herman Monastery in Platina, CA, and spiritual son of Fr. Seraphim Rose, captures in this talk the essence of what Christ did for man on the cross. He examines Christ’s defeat of sin and death and helps us understand more clearly the mystery of redemption. He draws frequently upon the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Fathers, especially St. John Chrysostom, St. Gregory the Theologian, St. Symeon the New Theologian, and Vladimir Lossky."
In this humble study of a talk that Fr Seraphim has referenced numerous times, this will be an honest effort at wrestling more directly with this fundamental and core mystery of our faith; of Christ's salvific saving work. As Father frequently says, our understanding of the atonement affects every aspect of our lives, how we see God, ourselves and others. Whether we know it or not, we are acting out our beliefs on the issue. Hopefully, this can be an opportunity for all of us, through Christ's mercy, to shed a little more light on what we really believe, and to turn our hearts and minds towards the Truth and radiance of his resurrection. A topic to be engaged with over a lifetime! May God bless our humble efforts. Links to the audio and text of the talk will be provided below. Please try to read and/or listen beforehand to familiarize yourself with the material.
To top it off, we will meet for an informal dinner after vespers on Saturday, and then enjoy a hike together at Quail Hollow after coffee hour on Sunday. Everything we do together will begin and end with prayer.

"What we sing in the Paschal hymn we mean quite literally: “Christ is Risen from the dead, trampling down death by death.””
