Orthodox Christianity is unfamiliar to many Americans because it has
until recently been the religion of the East, whereas the American
religious experience grows out of the Western Roman Catholic and
Protestant traditions. However, Orthodox Christianity was born in
Jerusalem two thousand years ago and is now a major force worldwide,
with 260 million believers in Russia, Eastern Europe, Greece, the
Middle East, and increasing numbers here in America and throughout
the world.
If you are unfamiliar with Orthodoxy, or know a little but would like
to know more, you may find the following articles helpful. Each is
only a brief overview of its topic; you can find out more from the
books in the Reading List. More
topics will be added here in the months to come. |
